What is LED Thermal Resistance? | Equation for LED thermal resistance
This page describes LED thermal resistance definition. It also mentions equation used to calculate LED thermal resistance.
As we know thermal performance is very critical in the design of lighting system. The lighting system with good thermal design delivers high efficacy. This means it generates more light with less energy consumption. It also provides system with long term reliability.
Definition:
The thermal resistance of LED is expressed as per mentioned equation.
It is ratio of change in device temperature (ΔT) to applied electrical power (P).
The unit of LED thermal resistance is 0C/W or K/W.
The thermal resistance between LED junction and case (Rth J-C) is very useful. It is a measure of amount of heat dissipation from die to package case from where heat is derived or measured by placing it with heat sink.
