Advantages of Lux Light Meter | disadvantages of Lux Light Meter

This page covers advantages and disadvantages of Lux Light Meter. It mentions Lux Light Meter advantages or benefits and Lux Light Meter disadvantages or drawbacks.

Introduction:
A Light meter measures amount of light incident on the surface in lumens/m2. It is also known as illuminance meter or lux meter. A basic meter uses silicon photodiode mounted in the cavity under white translucent cap made of plastic.

Lux Light Meter

The photodiode and associated electronic circuits of a light meter produces electrical current proportional to amount of light falling on active area of diode. Meter will display illuminance in units of either lux or foot-candles.

Benefits or advantages of Lux Light Meter

Following are the benefits or advantages of Lux Light Meter:
➨The light meters or lux meters are inexpensive.
➨As it is easy to measue illuminance, light meters are very simple in construction.

Drawbacks or disadvantages of Lux Light Meter

Following are the disadvantages of Lux Light Meter:
➨It is difficult to compare illuminance products based on just illuminance measurements. Other measurement parameters are also needed to have proper comparison.
➨The measurement of lux requires other information parameters such as orientation of lamp, distance, task plane area etc.
